Career paths in this area

Lawyer SOC 23-1011
Lawyers advise and represent clients in courts, before agencies and in private dealings — researching the law, drafting documents, negotiating, and arguing cases. In Florida the route runs through a Juris Doctor from an ABA-accredited law school, the Florida Bar Examination and the Multistate Professional Responsibility Examination. ⚠ There is no required or preferred undergraduate major: law-school applicants arrive from every field listed below.
Paralegal SOC 23-2011
Paralegals do the substantive legal work that does not require a licence — drafting pleadings and contracts, investigating facts, searching records, managing discovery and keeping cases organised. ⚠ A median of $62,890 on an associate degree, at 32 Florida institutions. ⚠⚠⚠ Read the outlook honestly: this is the only path on this site where the federal handbook names ARTIFICIAL INTELLIGENCE as a reason demand will be limited, and it projects 0% growth. That does not make it a bad career, but it changes how you should enter it.
Law — included because this career sits directly beneath it, and because paralegal work is one of the commonest ways people test whether they want to go to law school. ⚠ It is not a route: no part of a paralegal credential substitutes for a JD.
Police Officer SOC 33-3051
Police officers patrol, respond, investigate, arrest and testify — and carry the state's authority to use force. ⚠ A Florida median of $74,470, reached through a certified ACADEMY rather than a degree: Florida requires a high school diploma, not a bachelor's. ⚠⚠ This page covers patrol, investigation and corrections together, because they share one state certification system. ⚠⚠⚠ And it answers the question 6,939 Florida credentials a year raise: if the job does not require a degree, what is the degree for?
⚠ Law — named because policing is a common route toward the courts, and because this site's Lawyer path carries LSAC data showing criminal justice applicants post the lowest mean LSAT of any major group. If law school is the destination, choose the undergraduate major deliberately.

Careers without a path yet

The U.S. Department of Education links these careers to this field of study, but nobody has written a career path for them on this site yet. Press Request to ask for one. Paths are written in order of demand, and you can follow each request in the career request queue. Requests are anonymous: your browser keeps a random ID so that pressing Request again the same day counts once. We store no name or email, and your network address is kept only in scrambled form, to stop abuse. The SOC number is the U.S. Department of Labor’s code for the occupation.
