Course Description
EEV0210 – Certified Production Technician (CPT) is a 300 clock-hour Career and Technical Certificate (CTC) program in the Engineering Technologies > Electronics Vocational taxonomy. The program prepares students with the core technical skills required for entry-level production work across all sectors of manufacturing, from entry-level positions through front-line supervisory roles. The curriculum is aligned with the Manufacturing Skill Standards Council (MSSC) CPT 4.0 national credentialing framework, a federally-endorsed, industry-validated certification system. Upon successful completion of all required coursework and four MSSC module assessments, students earn the nationally recognized MSSC Certified Production Technician (CPT) 4.0 designation. This certificate is offered at Florida institutions including North Florida College (NFC) and Eastern Florida State College (EFSC), and is applicable to all manufacturing sectors statewide.
Completion of this program and the CPT credential may qualify students for up to 15 articulated college credits toward an Associate of Science (A.S.) or Associate of Applied Science (A.A.S.) in Engineering Technology at Florida colleges, pursuant to a statewide articulation agreement coordinated by the Florida Advanced Technological Education Center for Manufacturing (FLATE) and the Florida Department of Education.

Required Outcomes
Upon completion of this program, all students will be able to:
- Identify and apply workplace safety regulations, OSHA requirements, hazard communication standards, and emergency response procedures in a manufacturing environment.
- Conduct safety and environmental assessments, identify unsafe conditions, and implement corrective actions to maintain a safe, productive workplace.
- Apply quality practices and measurement techniques, including the use of precision measurement tools and common measurement systems, to ensure product conformance to specifications.
- Describe and apply manufacturing processes and production concepts, including how materials are transformed into finished products and how production workflows are managed.
- Identify and use the tools and equipment common to a manufacturing facility, including hand tools, power tools, and automated production components.
- Demonstrate understanding of maintenance awareness principles, including predictive and preventive maintenance strategies, to improve machine uptime and productivity.
- Successfully pass all four MSSC CPT 4.0 module assessments (Safety; Quality Practices & Measurement; Manufacturing Processes & Production; Maintenance Awareness) to earn the CPT credential.
Optional Outcomes
Where instructional time and resources allow, students may also be able to:
- Describe Green Production concepts, including energy efficiency, waste reduction, and sustainable manufacturing practices (optional fifth MSSC module).
- Demonstrate basic blueprint reading skills applicable to manufacturing work orders, drawings, and schematics.
- Interface with industrial computers and automation components, including sensors, pneumatic systems, and mechanical drives, as part of Industry 4.0 integration.
- Demonstrate foundational knowledge of Industry 4.0 technologies — including data-intensive manufacturing systems, robotics, and computer-driven production environments — embedded in the CPT 4.0 framework.
- Perform basic quality inspections and audits using standard quality assurance methods.

The following four content modules are required for all students and directly correspond to the four MSSC CPT 4.0 certification assessments:
- Module 1 – Safety
Safe and productive workplace practices; OSHA regulations; safety and environmental assessments; emergency drills and emergency response teams; identification and correction of unsafe conditions; safety training requirements; equipment safety; processes and procedures that support a safe work environment; safety and health requirements for maintenance, installation, and repair; safe equipment operation and operator performance. - Module 2 – Quality Practices & Measurement
Principles of quality assurance and continuous improvement; common measurement systems (metric and US customary); precision measurement tools and instruments; quality inspection methods and procedures; statistical process control (SPC) fundamentals; documentation and record-keeping for quality compliance. - Module 3 – Manufacturing Processes & Production
Overview of manufacturing sectors and production environments; how materials are transformed into finished products; production planning and workflow management; tools and equipment used in manufacturing facilities; assembly processes, work orders, and schematics; production documentation and reporting. - Module 4 – Maintenance Awareness
Preventive and predictive maintenance strategies; routine equipment inspection and lubrication; identification of mechanical, electrical, and pneumatic system faults; safety-related maintenance practices; maintenance documentation and work orders; improving productivity through maintenance programs.

- Green Production – Energy efficiency, waste minimization, environmental compliance, and sustainable manufacturing principles (optional MSSC fifth module assessment available).
- Industry 4.0 Technologies – Introduction to data-intensive and computer-driven manufacturing, including automation, robotics, Internet of Things (IoT) in production, and digital quality control systems, as integrated into the CPT 4.0 standards.
- Blueprint Reading & Technical Documentation – Basic interpretation of engineering drawings, schematics, and production work orders.

Career Pathways
Graduates who earn the MSSC CPT 4.0 credential are prepared for immediate entry-level employment across all sectors of manufacturing. The CPT credential is recognized and endorsed by the National Association of Manufacturers (NAM) and is applicable to a broad range of production environments.

Florida employers in sectors including aerospace (e.g., Space Coast), defense, healthcare device manufacturing, food processing, and advanced electronics manufacturing actively seek CPT-credentialed candidates. Graduates may also apply their CPT credential toward the A.S. in Engineering Technology through Florida's statewide articulation agreement, receiving up to 15 college credits toward the degree.
Special Information
Certification Preparation: MSSC Certified Production Technician (CPT) 4.0
This program is designed as direct preparation for the MSSC Certified Production Technician (CPT) 4.0 national certification. To earn the full CPT 4.0 credential, students must:
- Register with MSSC and pay associated assessment fees.
- Successfully pass all four modular assessments: Safety (passing score: 76%), Quality Practices & Measurement (75%), Manufacturing Processes & Production (74%), and Maintenance Awareness (73%).
- Assessments are proctored at MSSC-Authorized Assessment Centers. Florida hosts multiple authorized centers statewide.
- Assessments are offered in both English and Spanish; all four must be passed in the same language to earn the full certification.
- The CPT certification remains valid for five years; recertification is available through continuing education or related employment.
MSSC recommends that candidates possess at least a 9th-grade math and 10th-grade reading proficiency level prior to beginning coursework. Students at Florida Career and Technical Certificate programs must hold a standard high school diploma or equivalent for admission.
CPT credential holders may also pursue the optional Green Production certificate (fifth MSSC module) and the stackable CPT+ Skill Boss credential, which adds hands-on, device-based competency verification for advanced manufacturing environments.
