Course Description

TDR0874 — Civil Drafter is a 150-clock-hour occupational completion point (OCP) within Florida's Technical Drafting program pathway (Engineering Technologies > Technical Drafting). This course prepares students to produce civil engineering drawings using industry-standard computer-aided drafting (CAD) software. Students develop the skills needed to translate engineers' sketches, field notes, survey data, and specifications into accurate, standards-compliant technical drawings for civil infrastructure projects such as roadways, site developments, drainage systems, and utility layouts. The course builds upon foundational drafting skills and advances into civil-specific applications using tools such as AutoCAD Civil 3D and related platforms.

This OCP prepares students for entry-level employment as a Civil Drafter (O*NET 17-3011.00) and may articulate toward post-secondary programs such as a Computer-Aided Drafting and Design A.S. degree at participating Florida institutions.

Approximately one-third of all drafters work in engineering and architectural services, with additional opportunities in construction, utilities, and manufacturing.

This OCP may be stacked with other Technical Drafting OCPs toward a full Drafting & CADD Technology program diploma, and coursework may articulate toward a Computer-Aided Drafting and Design A.S. degree at participating Florida colleges such as Eastern Florida State College (EFSC).

Special Information

Industry Certification Preparation

Students completing TDR0874 are encouraged to pursue nationally recognized industry credentials that validate civil drafting competency:

Florida's Technical Colleges and some participating institutions also administer state and locally approved industry certification exams as part of the Drafting & CADD Technology program, which may include credentials from Autodesk or NCCER (National Center for Construction Education and Research). Students should consult their program advisor for currently approved certification examinations at their institution.
