Shooting, cutting and finishing moving pictures — for film, television, streaming, advertising and everything else that now needs video. ⚠⚠ 19 Florida public institutions award 814 credentials, and Miami Dade College alone awards 367 of them — 45% of the state's output, mostly as short certificates. ⚠ A field where 35% of the people working in it are self-employed.
The degrees this program covers
⚠⚠ ONE INSTITUTION IS NEARLY HALF THE STATE. Cinematography and Film/Video Production (50.0602) produced 814 credentials at 19 Florida public institutions: 384 certificates of twelve weeks to a year, 266 bachelor's, 118 associate, 25 master's. ⚠ Miami Dade College awards 367 of those, UCF 189, Broward 84, Valencia 60, Florida State 49. ⚠⚠ The certificate tier is where the volume is, which suits a freelance field — but it is worth knowing that the bachelor's producers are a much shorter list. ⚠⚠⚠ TWO INSTITUTIONAL SIGNATURES IN THE COURSE DATA THAT AFFECT TRANSFER. Measured across the statewide file, FLORIDA ATLANTIC runs the FIL prefix at FOUR CREDITS — 11 of its 21 undergraduate film courses — while everyone else runs three: UCF 78 of 103 at 3, USF 25 of 25, UNF 24 of 25, Broward 18 of 19. ⚠ That is one institutional choice, not a divergence on individual courses, and it means an FAU film student accumulates credit faster per course than a course count suggests. ⚠⚠ FLORIDA STATE runs 45 of its 70 film courses at VARIABLE credit, with UCF carrying 22 variable rows — the shape of a production school rather than a studies department, where the credit depends on the scope of the project. ⚠ Ask what a registration is worth before you register. ⚠⚠ AND THE NUMBERING IS UNSETTLED: History of Motion Pictures exists as FIL2030 at 4 institutions and FIL1030 at 3 with NO overlap, and FIL1420 and FIL1420C carry DIFFERENT titles at different institutions. Send syllabi on transfer.
Careers this program leads to
Each one sets out the courses along the way, the licence or certification at the end,
and the sources behind it.
Neighbouring fields that share much of the same coursework, and often the same employers.
⚠ Read these before you commit to a major — which doors a neighbouring degree
keeps open is the part no catalog tells you, and it is far cheaper to change now than later.
19 institutions awarded a credential in this field in 2023,
at these levels: Associate, Bachelor's, Certificate (1-2 years), Certificate (12 weeks-1 year), Master's.
A school appears here if it awards anything in the field, however limited
its offering — a technical college teaching only practical nursing has a nursing
program. Listed alphabetically, not ranked.

the most recent year published. ⚠ It records what was awarded, which is
strong evidence of what is offered, but a program launched since 2023
will not appear here. Check the institution’s own catalog before applying.
